There are few things we as humans hate doing more than moving our entire lives. Luckily for you there are a few things you can do to help keep you out of panic mode.

Here are 6 tips to make your move smooth sailing:

1. Do your online research

You may be an avid online surfer when it comes to checking out reviews on restaurants or a new Groupon deal , but it’s also more than a good idea to research your next moving company online too. Check out what the community is saying about their experiences on the Better Business Bureau, Google+ Reviews, or even go as far as checking this handy site at the U.S Department of Transportation.

2. Only move with a company that has a good rating

Make sure you get a guaranteed price in writing and check the FINE print from that company you decided to check out. Have a list of your inventory prior to calling because they will need this to give an accurate quote. Make sure to include the piano you have tucked away beforehand and not on moving day. There’s nothing worse than having a headache from your move in general and for a surplus of charges.

3. Does your building require a Certificate of Insurance to move in and out?

If so, All Around Moving Services Company handles issuing a certificate of insurance for all required buildings. Keep in mind that there are fees for doing so, and a sample of such certificate will be requested, so call your management company in advance and ask them to send it to you via email so you can easily email it to the movers.

4. Invest in moving insurance if you have valuable items

You can check with your home insurance policy first. All moving companies should offer basic insurance without an extra cost associated with it, so ask how much is covered per pound.

5. Know what to pack

Most companies will offer full packing but it typically costs more. However, there are items that can be wrapped or packed free of charge. Be sure to check with the movers beforehand. Asking what items the company will definitely pack and what will cost extra {like mirrors} will benefit you so you don’t overpack.

6. Ask about parking permits

Some cities require parking permits, so make sure to check with your county beforehand if you will be needing any on the day of the move.
