Moving Home

Moving home can be stressful as there is so much to be thinking about and then you also have to unpack at your new house which adds to the stress. We’re here to tackle one of the elements to make life easier, which is how to pack your soft furnishings to make life easier throughout the whole process.

Bedding

Bedding takes up so much space but isn’t heavy, so it can be such a pain to try and organise when moving. So, one of the best things you can do to make life easier is to get some vacuum bags.

All you need to do is get your duvets, duvet cover sets, pillows, blankets, sheets and anything else and fold them up as best as you can in the bags. You can get lots of different sizes of vacuum bags, with smaller for your sheets and then bigger for your duvets.

Once everything is folded in the bags, zip them back up and then use your vacuum to suck all of the air out of the bag using the gap on the side, which you reseal once it is all done. You will literally halve the size of all your bedding, so you can then fit it all into the moving boxes much easier and you can also make the most of the limited space you have in the moving van (also helping you to save money on your move).

Curtains

Next up we have curtains, something that many people are often stumped about how to pack without causing them to lose their shape and get all crumpled. We’d definitely recommend investing in a wardrobe box especially for your curtains, as this is the best way to help keep them in the best possible condition.

So, start by lining the box that your curtains will be going in with clean wrapping paper to make sure they don’t get dirty in the process. Then start folding your curtains lengthways, following the natural drapes of the curtains. Then, place this over a padded hanger and pin the drapes in place to prevent anything getting crinkled.

Then, wrap your curtains over the top of the bar in the box and use a piece of string to tie loosely around the ends to prevent anything falling off whilst also ensuring there is no damage.

Rugs

Next up, we have rugs. They take up quite a lot of space and can be easy to damage, so packing them properly is important. Start by rolling up your rug with the top of the rug on the inside, so that damage will be limited. Then, wrap the entire rug in packing paper, making sure to focus on the two ends which will have some of the rug exposed. Tie a few pieces of string around the rug to keep everything in place, then you should be good to go on moving day.

When you arrive, you may find that the rug has curled slightly, so you can put the rug upside down and then use your iron on a low setting to help remove any lumps or bumps. Flip it back over and then give the rug a good hoover, and this should help you to get your rug looking good as new.
