Guam travel advice

Guam is a small island in the Western Pacific. It’s part of the Mariana Islands archipelago and was under US control for many years. The climate here is tropical with temperatures typically between 80-90 degrees Fahrenheit year-round making for perfect weather to spend ample time outdoors.

If you are traveling to the Island for vacation, or are thinking about relocating to Guam and looking for something new to do, check out this list of best things to do outdoor in Guam.

Head to the Beach

There are plenty of beaches in Guam to enjoy, but it’s the Tumon Beach front that is best for an outdoor adventure. Here you can find a long stretch of sand perfect for swimming, beach volleyball, surfing and more. There are also many high-rise hotels along this coastline so it’s easy to spend a day just lounging in the sun.

Hit the Trails

For hikers and nature lovers, there are plenty of trails on Guam to explore. The Chamorro Village in Hagatna is a great starting point for a hike up Mount Alifan. If you don’t want to go far from your car, head north along Route 4 in Tamuning to the Sun Yat-Sen Park, which is home to multiple trails for hiking and birdwatching.

Visit the War Dog Memorial

For many years, dogs played a huge role in every branch of military service. Guam’s War Dog Memorial remembers all of these brave dogs who lost their lives defending our country. The memorial is located at the War Dog Cemetery in Barrigada and it’s a beautiful tribute to our veterans, as well as their four-legged comrades.

Take a Hike

Conquer the highest point on Guam by climbing Mount Lamlam. Make your way up to the top of this 1,334-foot mountain and enjoy a panoramic view of the island. To reach the trailhead, you’ll need to drive east from Hagatna through Inarajan and Inato.

Spend a Day on the Water

Enjoy some time fishing off one of Guam’s many beaches or head out on a calm day for some kayaking during your vacation. If you are looking for something a little more adventurous, sign up for some SCUBA diving. The waters surrounding Guam are rich with tropical marine life and there’s never a bad time to take the plunge.

Visit a Park

No matter the island, people love spending time outdoors in a park. Guam is no exception and there are plenty of local parks to check out. Parks located throughout the island include Ypao Beach Park, War in the Pacific National Historic Park, and many more.

Check Out Cushing Zoo

If you are an animal lover, don’t pass up the opportunity to visit Guam’s own zoo. Cushing Zoo is home to nearly 50 species of animals and is a great place for families or individuals who want to get close with some of Guam’s unique wildlife.

Go Surfing

The island has plenty of beaches but some of the best surfing is found on Tumon Bay. Here you can catch waves all year round so it never gets too cold to take a surf lesson. Rent your own equipment or book an instructor from one of the local shops in Guam.

Play a Round of Golf

Experience some of the most scenic golf courses around. Guam has a number of golf courses where players can enjoy the island’s lush natural landscape. Whether you are looking for 18 holes or just want to hit the driving range, Guam has exactly what you’re looking for.

Visit an Outdoor Market

There are usually at least two outdoor markets in Guam every weekend. Check out the Talofofo Market or Hagatna Fleamarket for some local goods, fresh produce, and plenty of handicrafts.

There are a number of outdoor shops and stores found throughout the island as well that sell everything from souvenirs to gifts and decor.

Enjoy a Meal or Drink on a Patio

Guam is famous for its amazing culture and cuisine. Head out to one of the local restaurants or bars that have a patio or outdoor seating area.

After enjoying one of these activities in Guam, cool down by visiting one of the island’s many shave ice shops or grab a refreshing beverage at one of the oceanside or beachfront bars.

No matter what you enjoy doing outdoors, Guam has something to offer. With beautiful beaches, lush landscapes, and plenty of activities to choose from, there’s no shortage of ways to enjoy the great outdoors here. If you are looking for an island escape that offers both relaxation and excitement, Guam is the perfect place to visit.
