If you move to a new house, you may find there’s a central air unit, but it’s not working as well as it should. You may also live in a home for some time, but eventually, the central AC unit stops functioning as well as before.
In either scenario, you’ll need to contact an air conditioning repair company and ask them to stop by and look at the unit to see what’s wrong. You might not be sure how to choose the best repair company from among the choices that are out there, though.
We will take a few moments right now to go over some key features you want to see when you’re shopping around and looking at some local air conditioning repair companies.
The Right Price
Let’s say you live in Charleston, WV, and you Google something like Charleston AC repair. You’ll immediately see multiple options, and many of them might look credible to you. How will you choose between them if you’ve never personally used any of these companies before?
The first thing you’ll probably want to take a look at is the price. When you go on the website of any AC service company, they should have the prices of their various services explicitly listed. It should be simple for you to figure out how much it will cost to get this company to do a service call to examine your unit to figure out what trouble it’s having.
If you spend some time on an AC repair company’s website and can’t figure out how much a service call will cost, that’s a potential red flag. No self-respecting repair company should have any issues telling you how much they’ll charge for a service call.
You might also compare three or four sites, and you’ll see that one of them has a much higher price tag for a service call than the others. You can probably disqualify that one from contention immediately. If most of the companies out there will charge you about the same amount for a service call, but one of them proposes to charge you much more, there’s no reason why you should pay the higher amount.
A Professional Website
While looking at the websites of various air conditioner repair companies in your area, you should also spend a little time on each one to see what you think about it. Even if you’re not an expert in website creation, you’ve probably spent enough time online to know a poorly-created site when you see one.
Maybe you visit an air conditioner repair company’s site, and it’s difficult to find your way around. That means that site provides a poor user experience, sometimes abbreviated as UX.
You might also see that the site has poor-quality stock images or that it doesn’t have a list of the various services that the company provides. Maybe there’s no “About” section detailing the company’s history and credentials.
All of this means you’re probably dealing with a second-rate company that doesn’t take pride in its work. Any business website is something into which that company should put plenty of time and money. If you see an AC repair company with a shoddy website that seems thrown together and inferior, you should take your business elsewhere.
If the price seems right and the website seems to be of a high quality, you might choose to reach out and speak to someone there. You should find a phone number on the site to call, and that’s probably the better move than sending an email message. Most business websites will allow you to send an email, but calling is the more proactive approach and should get you faster service.
When you speak to someone on the phone, you should quickly get an impression of that employee. Are they courteous and friendly? Maybe they sound irritated or like they’re doing you a favor just by talking to you.
If the person you speak to on the phone is rude or disrespectful, there’s no reason why you need to proceed any further. If you don’t like the interaction you have with this person, you can always try one of their competitors instead.
Any company should be glad that you chose to give them your business. If the employee you speak to seems rude or uninterested in helping you, you can simply go with someone else.
Maybe the price seems right, you like the company’s website, and the person you speak to couldn’t be any nicer. This AC repair company has scored some major points with you so far. However, perhaps the person you talk to on the phone says they’re pretty booked up right now, and they can’t get anyone out to your house to see you for ten days or a couple of weeks.
At that point, you’ll need to think about how long you’re willing to wait to get someone there to solve the problem. If the matter isn’t urgent, you might be okay waiting and playing along with this company’s availability.
If you’re impatient, though, you might ask around to a few other companies to see if anyone can get a technician to you sooner. Maybe it’s the middle of the summer when your AC unit stops working, and you don’t want to sit around for a couple of weeks to get it up and running again.
If you ask around to a few different AC repair companies and find out that all of them are booked for the next couple of weeks, you might have no choice but to wait. In many instances, though, you can find someone who’s willing and able to get to you sooner if you make a few more calls.
If you find an AC repair company that checks all these boxes, you should be in good shape. Maybe you’ll end up using that company many times in the years to come.
