Cleaning Hacks

Do you want to get clean, spotless windows quickly with minimal effort? Here are some helpful tips. You’ll be seeing attractive windows in a short time by following these ideas! Keeping all the windows clean in a home is a BIG task, yet it’s so important. You should know, when cleaning windows there’s a correct way and an incorrect way.

These suggestions will help you get your windows clean with less exertion than you’d suspect. Try one or all of them the next time you need to clean your windows.

Do It Yourself Cleaning Hacks

  1. Make Your Own  Glass Cleaning Solution

Commercial glass cleaners can leave streaks. They also contain chemicals that can be harmful to the environment and remain in your home long after the cleaning task is completed. That’s why many people are opting for natural cleaning solutions, or even water and a cloth.

One idea for a window cleaning solution consists of two parts water, one part cleaner, and one part vinegar. Gently spray the mixture on your windows, wipe it off, and wash the windows with water to prevent residue.

  1. Clean at the Right Time

When the sun is shining directly on the windows, the cleaning solution will evaporate quickly on the windows and leave behind spots and streaks. The correct time to clean is when the windows aren’t exposed to direct sunlight, such as on a cloudy day or in the early morning or evening hours.

  1. Use This Instead of Newspaper

Many people use old newspaper to wipe their windows instead of paper towels. This is an environment-friendly practice, but you end up with newsprint on your hands.

To prevent ink stains on your hands, try a new, unused paper espresso filter instead. Like newspaper, coffee filters help to prevent streaking. Unlike newspaper, it won’t leave dark spots on your hands and the glass.

  1. Try a Chalkboard Eraser

If you’ve tried everything and are still getting streaks, run a chalkboard eraser over your windows to wipe off residue. Alternatively, a delicate cotton shirt will also work.

  1. Don’t Use Hard Bristle Brushes and Rough Fabric

Hard fiber brushes and rough garments can scratch the glass and make it dull. Microfiber materials or paper can restore the shine.

  1. Try a Squeegee

A squeegee is the tried-and-true method of cleaning windows. You can watch a couple of YouTube videos on appropriate squeegeeing strategies to avoid streaks.

Squeegees are available at most home improvement stores. Wipe off the sharp rubber edge after each swipe and replace it as needed. This will keep your windows shinier and more clear.

  1. Use a Blower

For those hard-to-clean sections, try an indoor air blower. This can blow dust and dirt out of hard-to-reach places around the windows like the tracks.

  1. Cleaning Solution using Vinegar

A blend of distilled white vinegar and warm water in equal parts works well as a window cleaner. For example, take 1 cup of white vinegar and 1 cup of warm water and mix them. Use this solution to clean the windows.

If you need to use this solution for cleaning your kitchen windows, pre-wash the windows with soapy water. Alternatively, add a few drops of dishwashing fluid to the vinegar mixture and clean the windows right away. This is because kitchen windows are commonly greasy. If they are not, just the distilled vinegar solution will work.

  1. Finishing Touches

To prevent water blemishes on the window edges, apply your cleaner or water with a delicate fabric or a Q-tip. Buff them tiny scratches on the glass with non-gel toothpaste. If there is residue left from a sticker or decal, scouring liquor will assist with getting the gunk off.

  1. Clean Blinds With Kitchen Tongs

To quickly and effectively clean blinds, fold a cloth over a pair of tongs and attach it with elastic bands. Drag the cloth across the blinds to remove excess dust.
