Home Decor

The possibilities for home renovation are endless, but the budget is, unfortunately, not. Regardless of how well-acquainted you are with renovating, a bare-bones budget can constrain and constrict, forcing you to go down a route you aren’t too excited about. But frugality doesn’t have to mean a boring, uninspiring space.

On the contrary, a little creativity and some savvy tips and tricks can go a long way in transforming and revamping your living quarter into a stylish abode without breaking the bank.

You can achieve budget-friendly home decor through thrifty shopping hacks or creative DIY projects, all the while keeping your financial sanity.

Is Renovating on a Budget Possible?

Skepticism will surely infiltrate your thoughts when planning a home renovation on a budget. But let us put your mind at ease.

Renovating on a budget (and doing it well) is absolutely possible!

You don’t need a bottomless bank account to fashion a home you’re proud of, as some of the most stunning renovations have been accomplished with limited resources. How, you ask?

With pure, unadulterated creativity. When you begin thinking of stretching your dollar, ideas will spring up. Being strategic with your spending helps you prioritize your needs over your wants and makes you more open to alternative solutions.

So roll up your sleeves and get to work with our favorite tips!

How Do You Decorate Without Breaking the Bank?

After engaging with and contributing to multiple DIY renovation and decoration projects, we’ve compiled our favorite tips for revamping your home while pinching pennies:

Plan and Prioritize Diligently

Arguably the most tedious step in the process, the planning stage involves you sitting down with other household members and drafting a budget for your renovation and decoration. Settle on a vision of what you want your home to be and avoid filling it to the brim with decor. Instead, intentionally choose pieces that will provide your home with a much-needed dose of simplicity and elegance.

After setting your budget, allow for some wiggle room. Renovation project costs are notoriously easy to underestimate, so always add a bit more than what you’ve initially agreed upon. Usually, adding 10% more will create enough cushion room and won’t leave you strapped for cash by the end.

Keep Big Furniture Neutral

Furniture Neutral

Big-ticket items like sofas or bed frames shouldn’t be your targets for color experimentation. Since you’re on a budget, your big furniture should remain as timeless as possible and not fall victim to fleeting trends. So, stick with buying (or keeping) furnishings with neutral colors and classic designs that lend well to any style.

But if you’re a color fiend, this doesn’t mean you should forgo colorful decor. Instead, it should simply guide you toward relegating vibrant colors and trendy patterns to easily replaceable and inexpensive accessories like throw pillows or curtains.

Break Out the Paint

A fresh coat of paint makes our hearts go pitter-patter, so of course this is one of our favorite tips. Repainting your space is a tried-and-true method of freshening up your home and harmonizing your decor with your style. But for the best effect, coordinate your colors well according to a pre-established color palette that mixes together well.

If you decide to incorporate too many dynamic colors, they will undeniably clash and make the room look and feel smaller and more chaotic. If you must include colorful details, consider painting a bold accent wall. In turn, this will inject some personality into the rooms and break up any lingering monotony.

Breathe Some Life Into the Space

No home is complete without a dollop of green, no matter how minimalist you are. Adding some greenery to your home is an excellent (and affordable) way to enliven and reinvigorate the space. Some great options include potted plants, vertical gardens, zen gardens, or draped wall ivy.

But if you don’t have a green thumb, look through a diverse catalog of artificial green walls and vertical gardens. This option is relatively inexpensive, suitable for every room, and can be done as a DIY project, so it’s a win-win in our book!

Add Personality

Last but not least, add a touch of character and personality to your home. No home renovation project is complete without traces and fragments of the people living in it. For example, displaying family photos or decorating with items you’ve made or refurbished is a fantastic way to complement the charm of your space.

Here you can go all out and incorporate your favorite patterns and textures on throw pillows, blankets, trinkets, etc (without cluttering the space, of course). Don’t be afraid to display memorabilia and objects of high value in prominent locations. After all, your home is your canvas, so paint it the way you like.
