Stress-Free Move

Moving to a new home and place can be very exciting. However, let’s not forget that moving can be extremely challenging and you need to start preparing the move months before the moving date. Otherwise, things may get out of hand.

Before you move, you need to consider all the relevant factors such as packing, transporting the goods, organizing your new home, etc. It may sound a bit daunting, but fear not. In this article, we will equip you with information that will surely help you plan a smooth and stress-free move.

Create a Solid Plan

No moving attempt can be successfully executed if the mover doesn’t plan ahead. You need to start planning months before you move out.

When planning, it’s important to focus on certain factors. Here’s a small check-list that you can refer to if you’re planning on moving one or a few months later.

Set a Budget

Moving can be very expensive, especially if you don’t plan ahead. Proper planning can help you cut the budget considerably. The first step is to set a realistic budget. Check in with the people who will help you move and ask for a quote.

If that’s overwhelming for you, you can choose to do things yourself. Even in that case, you’ll have to contact various parties that’ll help you move. For example, you’ll have to hire transport for moving your stuff.

Planning it this way with alternatives in mind will help you set a realistic budget that you’ll be able to afford.

Make the Address Changes

When you’re done moving, chances are that in the very first morning you won’t find your favorite tabloid in the mailbox, because you forgot to notify the concerned authorities about the shift.

This can be problematic because these things take time to take effect. So, remember to notify your post-office or magazine vendor about the change in address way ahead. This way, you’ll be able to take a huge problem off of your shoulders.

Get Supplies

While moving, you’ll need a lot of supplies that’ll help you transport your goods safely to their new home. So, we recommend you get an appropriate amount of moving boxes, scissors, duct tapes, and other items that may be required in this process. Also, old newspapers are great for offering cushioning to sensitive objects on a budget. So, get these ahead of time.

Packing

Once you’re equipped well-enough and let’s say, it’s just two weeks till you move, it’d be the right time to start packing. Packing can take a huge toll on you, and it’s not a day’s work. So, start as early as possible. We found that starting off two weeks early can be of help.

But, how do you start packing? Where do you start? It can get very confusing real fast. Don’t worry, here are some clues that may help!

Start Off With Items You Need the Least

When packing, start off with the items that you need the least. For example, if it’s summer, start off with packing clothings and items that you need in winter.

Leave the Clothes on Hanger

If you have clothes on the hanger, you don’t have to take the pain of folding them all over. Rather, just carry them along with the hanger. If you have any cabinet or wardrobe that you’re planning on moving to your new home, leave the clothes on the hanger.

This will make the cabinet heavier so it’ll be hard to lift. Just take the clothes off when you’re loading the cabinet or wardrobe on the back of a truck. Once it’s loaded, you can put the clothes back in.

Suitcases

Use Suitcases

Suitcases will be crucial in packing. These can help you carry a lot of load. Not only that, but these can keep the items safe and secure too. So, make sure you use your suitcases to their fullest extent. You can also manage spare time from family or friends, just in case you need them.

Pack a Bag of Essentials

When moving out, things can become very chaotic. It’s very tough to find things when you need them the most. It’s important to keep track of things, but even then you’ll likely struggle when it comes to finding your toothbrush amongst hundreds of other items.

This is why we recommend you carry an essential bag with you. Every family member should have at least one essentials bag where they’ll carry only the items they’ll need for meeting basic demands in the next few days.

Label the Boxes

When you have around many boxes and bags full of items, it can be very easy to go clueless regarding what they contain. So, it’s important to label the boxes so you can understand what a box’s particulars are without having to even open it up.

You can also try color coding the boxes. In this case, you’ll have to keep notes of what the colors mean, but eventually you’ll get used to reading the colors without having to refer to the note. It makes things way simpler, so we highly recommend it.

Moving

The day of moving will eventually come, and the previous sections were on how to plan a move ahead of time. This section will cover what you need to do on the moving day.

Stay Hydrated and Seek Help

Moving can take a lot of toll on your body. So, it’s important to stay hydrated and well-nourished, or you’ll fall sick. Don’t take the entire burden on your shoulders. You can ask your friends or family for help. An extra pair of hands will definitely make things easier.

Make Arrangements for Children and Pets

Children and pets are likely to get stressed due to the entire moving process. Make alternative arrangements for them so they may have a good time away from the chaos.

Conclusion

As you can see, moving to a new home does require a lot of attention and hard work. So, it’s better if you plan ahead and start the preparations early. We highly recommend you keep the mentioned pointers in mind, as this will help you handle things better.
